This week’s lesson

KNOW THIS

This month we’re reading in the Bible about some of the amazing adventures of the early church. These are true stories of the adventures of Jesus’ first followers.

These are true stories of how Jesus changes lives.

The first group of believers were people like you and me who believed in Jesus and accepted the sacrifice He made for their sin.

They were ordinary people who received power by God’s Holy Spirit when He came upon them.

Paul and Barnabas were some of the very first missionaries. They traveled to faraway places to share the gospel–the good news of the forgiveness Jesus offers when He died on the cross for our sins.  The good news of eternal life for all who believe.

In today’s TRUE STORY found in Acts 13 and 14, Paul and Barnabas were chosen by the Holy Spirit to preach the good news. Let’s see how the church prayed for them, and how God helped them.

Paul and Barnabas may have been a little scared to go to strange places and talk to people about Jesus, but they still obeyed.  They knew God would help them share His story.

TRY THIS

There are 7 continents on our earth. There are 195 different countries. Our amazing God, who loves diversity in everything He has made, created more than 8.7 million species of animals!  WOW!

Adventurers and explorers can travel to different places all around the world. Paul and Barnabas traveled to many different cities to share God’s story.

Let’s see if you can recognize any of these places by the animals that live there. Can you guess the name of the country?

In this next video, Ms. Tammy helps us to understand just how BIG our earth really is!

Do you remember how many continents there are on our earth?

How many countries?

How many people?  How many languages do they speak?

There are a LOT of people on our earth who all need to hear the gospel!

Let’s read Paul’s words again Ephesians 6:19.

What is Paul asking the church to pray for?

Is this something we can do? Is this something we should do?

Can you think of some reasons people might be afraid to share the gospel sometimes?

Our church supports missionaries in our local area, elsewhere in the United States, and all over the world.  When you give to our church, you are helping to support these missionaries, too.

You can pray for them any time, all the time–pray for boldness to share the gospel and pray for God’s power and protection in their lives.

You can also pray for the people they are ministering to–that their hearts will be open to receive the good news of salvation Jesus offers.  It’s amazing how people all over the world share God’s story.

THINK ABOUT THIS

You can share the good news of God’s story, too. Do you know what the good news is?

This video is a good way to explain the gospel.

Here’s a neat trick you can use as a missionary to describe God’s plan to rescue us from sin!

Do you think you could make the shape of a cross out of a piece of paper with one straight cut?

It seems impossible, but when we share God’s story with others, He can help us do things that seem impossible.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  • If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you want to go?
  • Why were Paul and Barnabas traveling?
  • What do you think it was like to travel to faraway places back in those days?
  • How did God help Paul and Barnabas on their mission to share the gospel?

Remember THIS

God has made a beautiful and diverse world filled with beautiful and diverse people who all need to know about Him.  As believers in Jesus, we are called to share the good news of salvation through Jesus.  We are called to tell others what He has done for us on the cross.

All this month we have learned about the adventures of some of the first missionaries. We have heard amazing TRUE STORIES of Saul’s conversion, Peter’s vision, Peter’s rescue, and Paul and Barnabas’ missionary travels.

We have learned how God helps His people tell others about the new life He offers.

God will help us share the gospel with others, just like He did with Paul and Barnabas, and Peter. God wants all people to know what Jesus has done–He wants all people to come to repentance and salvation.

We can do our part!  God promises to help us.

Jesus helps us share His story.

Next week, we’ll learn more about the beginning of God’s creation!

CONNECT WITH GOD’S WORD

Here’s a playlist for you to praise God all week!

I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.    Psalm 34:1

Here’s a coloring page for younger ones to remember this lesson.
