This week’s lesson
KNOW THIS
Ask a large group of people what they enjoy about birthday celebrations, and what do you think will be in the top 5 answers of each person?
That’s right, GIFTS!
What makes gifts so much fun? Whether you give them or receive them, gifts are a great way to show love to someone.
Did you know God gives gifts to each of us? Some gifts are given to us when we’re born, and some very special gifts are given to us when we’re born again.
Let’s read our Scripture with Ms. Tammy to understand better.

UNDERSTAND THIS
God made everyone with unique gifts, or talents!
These gifts are special abilities you may have naturally–like musical talent, athletic abilities, talent for cooking or building, an ability to write well or understand math.
But when we are born again into God’s family by trusting in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God sends His Holy Spirit to live in us–and He brings even more special gifts, called spiritual gifts!
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT? (for Young kids)
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT? (for older kids)
SOME SPIRITUAL GIFTS given by GOD'S HOLY SPIRIT
WISDOM
The ability to give good advice from God’s word to others when they need it.
MIRACLES
The ability to pray for miracles and see God working them.
DISCERNMENT
The ability to differentiate between right and wrong; being able to recognize the work of the Holy Spirit.
FAITH
The ability to trust God completely and believe He will do what He says He will do.
HEALING
The ability to pray for sick or hurt people to get well, and the ability to see God make this happen.
TONGUES
The ability to speak different languages for the purpose of spreading the gospel.
KNOWLEDGE
The ability to understand hard things and apply them to your life.
PROPHESY
The ability to boldly and fearlessly tell others what God’s word says.
INTERPRETATION
The ability to understand and translate these languages so others can understand.
These special gifts are not things that we possess to make us important. The Bible says we should not boast in gifts from God.
They come from God in His power by His Holy Spirit–they are for His purposes to show others who God is.
You can’t buy these gifts, return them, or choose which ones God will bring to you, but they’re all good. Why? Because they’re all from God!
THINK ABOUT THIS
Jesus said, “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
–Luke 11:11-13
Have you ever asked your parent, teacher, or another grownup for something only for them to say, “No?”
Sometimes we are told “No” because maybe whatever you asked for is not good for us, and the grownups in our lives want to keep us safe. And sometimes, it’s because they have something better in mind!
TRY THIS
Do you know why these are called gifts? It’s not just because they are given to us by God’s power, but also because He wants us to use them for other people.
Spiritual gifts are gifts that keep on giving!
Print the box pattern printable. Write one or two of the spiritual gifts you would like to have in two of the squares. In the remaining squares, write or draw ways you would use that gift to help others. Decorate all of your square box sides, cut it out, then fold and tape it together to form a cube–just like Faith did!

Dear God, thank you for the gifts you have given us.
Help us use those gifts well,
and give us gifts we don’t have yet
to help and serve our friends better.
Thank you for your Holy Spirit. Amen.
Here’s a playlist for you to praise God all week!
