make us truly thankful.’
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 16 “Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”.
Give thanks in all circumstances… 2Tim 3:1-2 “…Men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful… “
The Psalmist tells us…
Psalms 28:7 The LORD is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
All Ten were Lepers
Luke 17:11-19 11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice,
Leviticus 13:45 “The person with such an infectious disease must wear torn clothes, let his hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of his face and cry out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’
2. All Ten Cried out for Mercy
They stood at a distance [humble] 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity [compassion, sympathy, mercy] on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
Psalm 51:1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
3. Only One gave Thanks
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice [strong emotion]. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him–and he was a Samaritan [hated & despised by Jews]. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
Psalms 136:1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
“I used to think people complained because they had a lot of problems. But I have come to realize that they have problems because they complain. Complaining doesn’t change anything or make situations better. It amplifies frustration, spreads discontent and discord, and can invoke an invitation for the devil to cause havoc with our lives.” Dr. Dale Robbins
Three big barriers that steal our gratitude…
Pride, critical spirit (complaining), carelessness
Psalm 77:3 says, “I complained and my spirit was overwhelmed.”
Philippians 2:13 “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.”
I Thess. 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.
