Pastor “Real Heroes”
“Hero” – a person of distinguished courage, abilities and qualities… especially one who has risked their life A coward dies a thousand deaths, a hero only one. ~ William Shakespeare
“Gibbor” – appears 159 times in O.T. (strong, mighty, warrior… the proven one, to excel, a champion for Christ… excellence)… this Hebrew word is often used to describe God… “Mighty God”
I. Examples throughout the Bible (literally hundreds…)
Joshua 1:7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Joshua 5:15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so… Joshua 6:27 So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
Acts 6:5 “…They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit…” Acts 7:59-60 59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.
Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.
Acts 13:22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’
Mark 10:43-45 43 “… whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, (diakoneo) 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave (doulos) of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
“Servant” diakonos – voluntarily renders service to others “..become great among you must be your…” “Slave” doulos – forfeits his own rights in order to serve others “…wants to be first must be slave…”
Voluntarily renders service to others… forfeits his own rights in order to serve others…
THANK YOU! You’re the Real Heroes… what more can I say… There is JOY in serving Jesus! (Take a snap-shot picture of them… what would you see?)
