Billy Graham says his favorite story is of a husband who was not very attentive to his wife. One day he started feeling guilty about that and decided to change. So on his way home from work he bought a box of candy and some flowers to surprise his wife. He walks up to the door and rings the doorbell. She opens it, and there he stands, candy in one hand, flowers in the other, singing, "I love you truly, truly, Dear." Instantly she starts crying, big old tears just gushing out of her eyes. She sobs, "Oh, Harry! Everything went wrong today. We had a leak in the plumbing. The kids were terrible. The house is a wreck. And now you come home drunk!"
Mother’s Day in the USA started nearly 150 years ago when Anna Jarvis organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions in her Appalachian community. She called it "Mother's Work Day." When she died in 1905, her daughter began a campaign to honor her mom. In 1914, Anna, the daughter, saw her hard work pay off when President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill recognizing Mother’s Day as a national holiday. And now the second Sunday of May has become the most "dined out" day of the year and telephone calls record their highest volume. Its estimated $126.90 will be spent on each mother this year… flowers, candy, cards, gifts

Four “Traits” of an excellent woman… A Woman of Excellence... 1. Lives a Life of Integrity! (vs10-12) Impact Proverbs 31:10-12 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
Proverbs 12:25 An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.
Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
A Woman of Excellence... 2. Shows Diligence in her responsibilities! (vs13-19) Proverbs 31:13-19 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. 14She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. 15She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions or her servant girls. 16She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. 18She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. 19In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
"Things My Mother Told Me" – (Los Angeles Times article, 1995) 1. Mind your manners and always write "thank you" notes. 2. Brush or comb your hair. 3. Your appearance matters. 4. Never marry a man in order to change him. 5. Stand up straight and clean your fingernails. 6. Eat everything on your plate and remember the starving children in the world. 7. Speak up, don’t mumble. 8. If you ask for something, you may get it. 9. If you don’t ask, you will not get it. 10. Keep your mouth shut and your ears open.
A Woman of Excellence... 3. Rests Confident in her Calling! (vs20-25) Proverbs 31:20-25 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. 21When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. 22She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. 23Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. 24She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. 25She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
Research conducted by the University of Connecticut and the University of Minnesota has revealed that mothers across the country like being mothers. Yet they tend to feel under appreciated and less valued by society. The results of the study show that 81 percent are "very" satisfied with life as a mother.
Philip. 4:11-12 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
A Woman of Excellence... 4. Engages in Consistent Teaching! (vs26-29) Proverbs 31:26-29 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29"Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."
Proverbs 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

The impact of a praying mom!

Proverbs 31:30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
The Fruit of a Woman of Excellence...
Proverbs 31:31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
