“In the Beginning…” series Part 10 of 10

Nehemiah 9:6 You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

Genesis 10:1 This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah's sons, who themselves had sons after the flood.

I.  The Table of Nations (Read written notes of the countries & settlements)

Ø  Japheth – moved northward (Russia, Europe, India…) 10:2-5

Ø  Ham – moved southward (Persian Gulf, Egypt, Africa…) 10:6-20

o   Psalms 105:23 Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham.

Ø  Shem – moved central (Israel, Jerusalem, Syria, Arabia…) 10:21-31

o   Most probable record keeper according to Gen 11:10

Genesis 10:32 These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.

How God made it happen is described in Chpt 11 – Tower of Babel (we’ll see soon)

	Grew to be a mighty warrior on earth v8 Text suggests hunting skills & acquired a “hero’s” reputation protecting the population from many animals (most likely dinosaurs, lions, etc)
	A “mighty tyrant in the face of Jehovah” v9 “We will not serve but rule”… mighty in wickedness against God
	Became great in influence, power and authority v10
	Expanded in prominence as “world leader” v11-12

	All people spoke one common language 11:1 (including written language)
	Moved East from Ararat and settled in Babylon 10:10; 11:2 (several hundred miles – between the Tigris & Euphrates rivers in southern Mesopotamian… south of Bagdad, Iraq)
	Built with baked bricks and tar 11:3
	Build a city, a tower, a name, a united nation 11:4
	People were deceived, proud, rebellious, sinful

	Ancient base believed to be from the Tower of Babel… 2,000’ square X 175’ high (Birs Nimrud)
	Built in 7 receding stages resembling the Ziggurat’s we see yet today
	Each stage is of a different color in honor of planets and their gods
	Top may reach heaven – a religious connection… beginning of the Zodiac signs, worship of stars/gods… temple on the very top of the tower w/ altar for sacrifice & worship, occultic… astrology, polytheism… constellation  the virgin became “the queen of heaven”… Leo became the “king of heaven”… the angelic host were the stars of heaven… Satan corrupting again…
	To make a name for ourselves – glorify human achievement
	Not be scattered – one language,  one goal, one agenda… centralized Gov’t & religion… open cooperation, communication, thoughts, man-centered, implement complex plans (UN today?)

	Confusing their language (most likely spoke Semitic  language because of the proper names and places used… they all have meanings only in Hebrew – 6,912 living languages today) Evolutionists utterly unable to explain the unbridgeable gap between animals/man lang.
	Perplexity reigned, building endeavor ceased
	People migrated throughout the earth (Genesis 10, Individual family units stayed intact) Strongest got the best locations… “base” men, (cavemen) expelled from groups Weaker less ambitious families pushed farther away… all within a few generations Modern archeology confirms civilizations appeared in all parts of world 3-4,000 yrs ago Each developing a distinct culture, also physical/biological characteristics Small inbreeding population… genetic DNA defects… skin color, heights, hair texture, tribes, nations we see today…

Deuteronomy 32:8 When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.

The world’s stage was set for a man named Abram, a new nation called Israel, through whom the promised Redeemer would come, called Jesus!

Food for Thought… Today we are experiencing Babel in “reverse”…

People groups uniting together under common “banners” 1Thes 5:1-4 (religious groups, global warming, environmental, even liberal & conservative, nationalized programs, big brother)

Secular Humanism tied with evolution dominating the world 2Pet 3:3-7

Technology shattering the language/nation barriers Dan 12:4 (information, computers)

Nations in anguish and perplexity – no way out solutions Lu 21:25 (crisis, wars, fuel prices…)

World leader called the Antichrist will rise to power 2Thes 2:3-9; Rev 13 (into this global economy, spiritual vacuum, following the rapture will rise a new Nimrod called the Antichrist)

Matthew 24:37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

God’s plan of the ages is about to be drawn to its conclusion!
