Why Church?

Acts 2:41-47 & selected

The Church today…

The Early Church… Acts 2:41-47 41  Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. 42  They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43  Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44  All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45  Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47  praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Personally & Corporately:

  1. We must Supremely ____________ God and people… Exalt.

Matthew 22:36-40 36  “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37  Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38  This is the first and greatest commandment. 39  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Psalm 118:28  You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you.

  1. We must diligently ____________ God’s Word… Equip.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 16  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17  so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Ephesians 4:11-13 11  It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12  to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13  until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

  1. We must seek to ____________ the lost… Evangelize.

Matthew 28:18-20 18  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

1 Corinthians 9:22  To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.

John 4:35  Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

  1. We must demonstrate ____________ to others… Elevate.

Matthew 5:13-16 13  “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14  “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Ephesians 5:8-11 8  For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9  (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10  and find out what pleases the Lord. 11  Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

“… I will build my church, and the gates of Hell will not overcome it.”

JESUS, Mt 16:18
