“Living in an Upside-Down World”
Stress, part 4
Two overarching realities…
God’s unseen perfect eternity and fallen mankind on earth.
Stress: Generally temporary feelings of being under too much mental & emotional pressures… Stress may develop into anxiety, which is a sustained emotional issue, producing feelings of unease, worry or fear.
- God created me an emotionally complex being…
Proverbs 4:23 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
- My Feelings can be unreliable.
- My Feelings can be manipulated.
- My Feelings can be managed.
- God’s plan for me is to be emotionally healthy.
1Th 5:16-18 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Nehemiah 8:10b “… This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
John 14:27 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
III. Living victoriously in God’s Peace…
- God’s Presence is Promised!
Philippians 4:4-9 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
- God’s Prescription is Prayer!
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
- God’s Pledge is Peace!
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
- Living a Blessed, NOT Stressed Life!
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me–put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Think Right = Feel Right = Live Right
