“God with Us”

Mt 1, Lu 1 & selected

Matthew 1:23  “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel“–which means, “God with us.”

Anticipation: An expectation and visualization of a future event…

What are you anticipating?

  1. Anticipation of Christmas.
  • Family, friends, food, hustle & bustle, shopping, gifts, decorations…
  • Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season!

Luke 1:68  “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people.

  1. Anticipation of _________________ Promises.

Promised Redeemer – Genesis 3:15  And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Virgin with Child – Isaiah 7:14  Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Origins, from Eternity – Micah 5:2  “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

  1. Anticipation of Mary & Joseph.

Angel’s announcement to JosephMatthew 1:20-23 20  But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22  All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23  “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”–which means, “God with us.”

Angel’s announcement to Mary Luke 1:31-35 31  You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33  and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” 34  “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35  The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
